DAVID KESSEL'S ART ABOUT THE WEB
DAVID KESSEL is a former UCLA instructor, a California-based artist who, after many years of searching for an artistic cause
to devote his creative life to, has discovered it in the Internet.
"The Internet is a virtual world and it deserves as much creative devotion as the real world.
I have noticed that while there is great deal of art on the Web, there is little art 'about'
the Web. I am here to correct the situation".
Hence, www..ArtAboutTheWeb.com was born three years ago. The artist's endeavour is to romanticize
all aspects of the computer and the Internet world— hardware, software, programming, surfing, browsing, chatting...
In the times of old, people painted about their environment and their daily lives— work in the fields, picnics
dances... Now, many of us live online, so why not paint about our life on the Web?
The art illustrates various computer terminologies in colorful, humorous ways. There are also some poems
painted on canvases which describe the author's unique view of how we, netizens, should see the Web.
Most of his art is guache and acrylic on canvas and paper— some artworks have been created
both by painting and later digitalized and presented in unusual colors and textures.
The artist has exhibited in New York,Virgin Islands, Florida, Greece and is planning a big excursion into
England this year. He hopes many other artists would join him in serving the virtual world in this
new way. "After all, the Internet is our home".
