Spread XV: Hit

What a word to name this issue. "Miss" is rather apropos. This issue's lateness (not again?!) is an inexcusable let down. Unsurprising if scores of spreadniks have by now given up missing this vehicle and boarded instead any gravy train coming on the information network. The contrite (lately undynamic) duo behind
spread—Titus Toledo and Rosendo Makabali--beat their breasts in atonement and profusely bleed here their individual pieces to coalesce and compact with the sheddings of steadfast co-conspirators on hand— Tony Nesca, Davis Schneiderman, Jerry Vilhotti, Mike Paul-Anthony--to vigorously hit towards new underground guerrilla exploratory art + literature in the new medium. Hit or miss:

The only zen: interview with Robert Pirsig

"The only Zen you find on the tops of mountains is the Zen you bring up there." At 78, Robert Pirsig still knows, and doesn’t know... The Seventies bestseller Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was the biggest-selling philosophy book ever. But for the reclusive author life was bitter-sweet. Here, he talks frankly about anxiety, depression, the death of his son and the road trip that inspired a classic. Just zen it:

The new map of the brain

"Trying to map the brain has always been cartography for fools. Most of the other parts of the body reveal their workings with little more than a glance. The heart is self-evidently a pump; the lungs are clearly bellows. But the brain, which does more than any organ, reveals least of all. There are uncharted worlds inside your head, but science is drawing a map." Find your way:

Animated da Vincis

Leonardo da Vinci is, arguably, the greatest artist and thinker of all time. This exhibition will illuminate the most fundamental aspect of Leonardo's work: how his mind was able to visualise his incredible theories. Innovative film animations will graphically depict and inform the precious pages and small notebooks in which Leonardo da Vinci detailed his observations and theories, his mighty inventions and his extraordinary visions of the earth in age-old transformation. Large models, most notably a flying machine, tank and a giant crossbow, will also be displayed to illustrate and explain his inventions. Little-known treasures, such as the V&A's Forster Codices - three of Leonardo da Vinci's small notebooks detailing studies on geometry, weights and hydraulic machines, will also be on display. The Critical Distinction Between Science and Religion
