SpinCycle

A turntable that allows you to arrange and play colors visually and musically, spinCycle is fitted with a camera that takes the place of tonearm on a normal turntable. Rather than a needle playing grooves in a record, spinCycle creates sounds based on colors that the camera sees. The DJ places brightly colored plexiglass circles on the spinning platter, creating beautiful color patterns that are then translated into sounds. Check out

Email clock

"Like many people, I have a lot of anxiety about my email inbox. With every kilobyte that comes in, another minute of my life disappears, time I could spend doing things I enjoy more than checking email. But I can't stop checking my email compulsively while I'm working, and email programs make it even easier to feed my compulsion. So I decided to embody my anxiety in a device that would compulsively check my email for me, and worry over the amount continually coming in, so I wouldn't have to..." Here for more of

Matisse, Mexico and early 20th century

"As a culture, we have become so thoroughly exposed to the great works of Western art that it's easy to take them for granted. Seeing a Picasso reproduction in a book or poster is a little like hearing the Rolling Stones on the radio for the umpteenth time. What was once groundbreaking and even scandalous in its day has become commonplace, safe." Read the full story:

Trailing Bob Dylan

When filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker hit the road with Bob Dylan in 1965 to shoot a documentary of the musician's tour of England, he was unaware that he would make history. For one, Pennebaker barely knew who Dylan was. In addition, he couldn't have predicted that his Spartan black-and-white documentary, which eschews traditional story-telling techniques such as narration and interviews, would be hailed as the greatest rock documentary of all time. Here for
